How does the Cow Start bolus work?
2 BOLI SUPPLIES 60 GRAMS OF CALCIUM, 6 g MAGNESIUM, 40000 IU OF VITAMINN D3, 4 g OF PHOSPHOROUS and is in our opinion the best bolus for milk fever prevention and treatment out there!
The Cow Start bolus is fat coated for safer and easier swallowing – however care must still be taken when administering. The bolus disintergrates in the rumen quickly, delivering a combination of fast and sustained released Calcium sources, thus providing the ideal Calcium release profile to support your cow. The Cow Start bolus also provides Magnesium, Phosphorus & Vitamin D3 to enhance Calcium absorption and rumen protected Selenium and vitamin E as an aid in supporting the immune response.
How to administer:
- Insert both boluses into the bolus applicator.
- While holding the cow’s upper jaw, guide the applicator into the cow’s mouth.
- Guide the applicator gently behind the cow’s tongue and administer the boluses.
- After administering the boluses, pause momentarily to allow the cow to swallow. Then remove the applicator.
- Ensure cow is sitting up and able to swallow to prevent choking.

Clinical milk fever cases on average cost 275 euro per cow and 5 % of cows suffer, costing 1375 euro per 100 cow herd but of more interest is subclinical cases calculated at 125 euro per case and upto 50 % are affected , costing 6250 per 100 cows! Ideal for cows that have had 4 or more calves, or other risk factors.
Whole herd use including first calvers has wiped out clinical cases, retained cleanings, displaced stomachs, reduced mastitis massively in a number of our herds.
